Laser Dentistry

Although we have three different types of lasers at our office, we are particularly proud of the procedures we can perform using the Waterlase®.  We use the Waterlase® laser to perform many dental procedures with fewer shots and less anesthesia than traditional dentistry. That means a new level of comfort and satisfaction for your entire family. Just think of the hugs you will get!

What is Waterlase DentistryTM?

Waterlase Dentistry uses a patented combination of laser energy and water – a process called HydroPhotonicsTM - to perform a wide range of dental procedures on teeth, gums and bone more comfortably. Waterlase Dentists typically use fewer shots and fewer anesthesias to provide a more comfortable dental experience.

Lasers have long been the standard of care for many surgical and cosmetic procedures such as LASIK, wrinkle removal, and hair removal. The Waterlase was approved for hard tissue procedures in 1998 and since has been cleared for numerous additional dental procedures. Thousands of dentists around the world have performed millions of Waterlase hard and soft tissue procedures.

Why Should I Use A Waterlase Dentist?

Waterlase Dentistry has many advantages over conventional dental instruments:

Your Comfort - Heat, vibration, and pressure are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional drill. Since the Waterlase laser cuts hard and soft tissue without heat, vibration or pressure, Dr. Limbird may be able to perform your procedure with fewer shots and less anesthesia. Plus, using the Waterlase laser reduces bleeding, post-operative pain and swelling, and the need for pain medication in many cases.

Accuracy and Precision – Dr. Limbird can remove decay in tooth enamel, which is the hardest substance in the human body, while it leaves the surrounding tooth unaffected.

Reduced Trauma - High speed drills can cause hairline fractures in teeth that can eventually lead to future dental problems. The gentle action of the Waterlase laser reduces damage to healthy portions of the tooth, which minimizes trauma.

Improved Cavity Fillings Waterlase cavity preparations increase bond strength of tooth-colored restorations, for longer lasting fillings.

Fewer Dental Visits – Since you may not need shots or anesthesia, Dr. Limbird may be able to remove cavities in several areas of your mouth, rather than having you come back for multiple visits. In addition, Dr. Limbird may be able to perform procedures for which you might have previously required a referral to a specialist.

Less Bleeding and Swelling – Due to its gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities the Waterlase laser performs many procedures on gums and other soft tissues with little or no bleeding and less post-operative swelling.

Versatility – The Waterlase laser was first cleared by the FDA to cut tooth structure in 1998 and has since received over 60 additional clearances for a wide range of procedures on teeth, gums and bone.
